The 2004 Tsunami and 2005 Earthquakes changed many breaks in Aceh and North Sumatra, but new breaks have been created that are just as good. Reefs lifted over 2 metres on Nias, Simeulue and the Hinako Islands, moving the surf breaks out another 200 metres, producing hollower and more powerful waves than before. But still totally perfect and definitely worth travelling to.
The photos on this page were taken in May and June 2005, as the first trips for the year discovered "new Nias", "new Bawa" and "new Asu".

It's definitely worth paying $85 to $100 a week for

for a medical airlift if you get injured on the coral reefs, roads,
or even in an earthquake. "If you can't afford Travel Insurance,
