Bali Surf Report - MAY 2012

THE BEST APRIL EVER ?!!!

Three back-to-back 10 foot plus swells got surfers asking "Was that the best April ever?" Kelly Slater flew into Bali specially to catch it, surfing Padang and Keramas on the same day. Jim Banks, Made Lana, and "the Ulu crew" scored maxing Outside Corner Uluwatu. And between swells there have been plenty of fun 3 to 6 foot days. Light winds mean crowds have spread out all over the island. Last year was one of the best ever, with 7 months of non-stop surf. Could 2012 turn out to be even better? April to June usually sees lots of glassy mornings on both sides of the island, and then steady offshores and swells until the end of October - so book your flights now! And in case the swell jacks up, you better get your Travel Insurance here first!

All you need is board shorts, sun block and Indo Surf & Lingo to guide the way! All Bali's surf spots are listed in our exclusive Bali Wave Size Prediction Chart, making it easy for you to plan where to surf each day!

Surf & Weather Prediction from April to October - Hot hot hot! Book your flights now and get ready to surf your brains out in Indo this year!

Surf Seasons:  Bali is renowned for always having a 4 foot wave somewhere on the island. All year you can be guaranteed head high surf most days, with an 8 to 10 foot swell pumping through every week or two. Starting in April the famous lefts on the west coast enjoy offshore sunny perfection through till the end of October. This is considered the best time of year for guaranteed surf and sunshine. The biggest swells usually hit from June to September. November and December see winds start to swing, with less consistent variable conditions until January when the monsoon winds and swells set in until the end of March.

No matter what time of year you go, the waves are always surfable, and it's always offshore on one side of the island. The "worst month" in Bali can still be better than "the best month" back home. April, May and June see the least crowded quality surf, July and August see peak crowd and swells, and September still pumps. November and December are usually the least active months, and then the east coast rights pump from January to March when it rains a lot which keeps crowds down. And remember there are usually glassy early mornings on both sides of the island, offering uncrowded waves to the early risers among us. There really isn't an "off season" because Bali is always going off!
