Bali’s exposed south coast is usually too big to surf. Chances are you will only surf here because everywhere else is "flat", but this area is not for learners ~ even when everywhere else is "too small to surf" the South Coast can have powerful thick 4 to 8 foot sets. This coast has undergone massive changes since its early days as a few remote secret spots, with a highway now circling cliff tops. There are no beach-side resorts or roads as the cliffs are too steep and close to the ocean. Next to the huge Bali Cliff hotel Green Ball is down a few hundred ridiculously steep steps,. A few kimometres west is Nyang Nyang, also only accessed down a difficult steep goat track scrambling on the edge of the cliff face. It's even harder to climb back up again.
Arrive early before any wind. Be careful of the currents, especially as the tide sucks out on full moons.
Don’t surf the south coast alone
there is no land between here and Antarctica
